Optimum Health

I just read “8 weeks to optimum health” by Andrew Weil. Here’s a combination of the book and other information I have discovered from other health experts. I haven’t listed the reasons why…just listing what

Do

Walking is the best exercise for overall health.

Steam/sauna are great!

BREATHE – breathe deeply multiple times per day

Use soy replacements for meat as much as possible (i.e. impossible burger)

Wild caught tuna/salmon (twice a week) – too much fish can cause high mercury levels in your blood

Ginger root and garlic are REALLY GOOD! I put them in smoothies. My main smoothie is spinach, ginger root, frozen mixed veggies, garlic and coconut water. Throw it all in a Ninja and blend it up.

The book lists a bunch of supplements and roots. Here are some of the ones listed: Arctic root, ashwaganda and astragalus root

Don’t

Microwave any plastic (no plastic in the microwave at all). Put it on a plate or microwave safe dish and cover with wax paper.

No margarine – only real unsalted butter

No cooking oil other than coconut oil

No sugar or any artificial sweeteners

Consume white flour and salt sparingly

Any exposure to radiation is terrible for you (any x-ray)

Don’t burn meat…cut off any burnt parts

Don’t sleep near electricity. No alarm clocks or charging phones. Move all electronics to AT LEAST 3 feet away from you.

Alcohol is not good for your body.

Stay away from negative people and negative social media. Do a NEWS detox AT LEAST once a week.

Don’t drink hot water from the tap. The water heater can have nasty stuff in it that you don’t want to consume.

Antioxidants in supplement form haven’t been proven to help.  Get them from fresh fruits/veggies.

Breathing

Breathing is one of the BEST things you can do to help with a multitude of health issues from anxiety to insomnia to irregular heartbeat. Do these daily.

1) Start with giving…think of the breath as starting with an out breath
Out – give to universe
In – universe breathes into you. (Don’t think of it as inhaling…it’s the universe breathing into you).

2) Exhale Fully
In then Out out out. Squeeze ribs and abs to get it all out. Inhale fully.

3) Rapid Breath
In out extremely rapidly thru nose with diaphragm movement. Work up to 1 minute. Tongue behind top teeth mouth slightly open. But. Everything thru nose.

4) Observation
Observe breath for 10 min. Start with out breath then in. That’s 1. Focus on that. If your mind wanders…come back to the breath. Also, notice where you’re focusing…is it the air going in and out of your nose/mouth….is it the air going in/out of your lungs…is it the air going in/out of your entire body.
